One of the most defining moments in the bathroom is finding blood after using the toilet. The image strongly suggests conditions where pain and elimination issues intersect, making this warning sign highly relevant.
- In Stool (Rectal Bleeding): This can range from bright red blood (often suggesting the bleeding is lower in the colon) to dark, tarry stools (known as melena, suggesting bleeding higher up in the digestive tract). Colorectal cancer is a leading cause of this sign. While hemorrhoids can cause bright red blood, any persistent bleeding must be checked.
- In Urine (Hematuria): For men and women alike, blood in the urine can be a major red flag for bladder or kidney cancer. It may appear only once or occur intermittently.
- Vaginal Bleeding Between Periods: For women, unexpected bleeding outside of the regular cycle, or after menopause, is a critical warning sign that demands a gynecological exam.
